This site was designed to be as simple as possible to both find information and keep updated. It is built on the tumblr platform, to allow for easy uploading of content, as well as create a community of fans and followers for the band.

It is aesthetically minimal, but utilises the ‘hand drawn’ feel established for the band in former album artwork, posters and promotional material. To add to the personal feel, I used the members’ own drawings and scribbles to create a background that is used across their other social media platforms.

Other features include customised social media icons and a mailing list sign up form.

Fat, Drunk Santa poster for Fierce Mild’s post x-mas gig...

Fat, Drunk Santa poster for Fierce Mild’s post x-mas gig at the Brunny & Poster inspired by Schrödinger’s Cat theory for their upcoming St Kilda Festival show.

Identity and website for Wonderbao, a steamed bun shop in...

Identity and website for Wonderbao, a steamed bun shop in Literature Lane, Melbourne.

Until a few months ago I would eat felafel in Coburg Plaza...

Until a few months ago I would eat felafel in Coburg Plaza whilst enjoying the amazing kitchness of the Barber Shop logo next door.

Alas, the gentlemen of Coburg will now have to go elsewhere to have their locks clipped and their moustaches curled, because the shop is sold and the signage gone.

It does however live on in my reapplication of it, onto tote bags, and more goodies to come. If you’re interested in one, they come in black-on-red or red-on-white and are hand screenprinted onto calico bags.
The logo represents the dynamic nature and contradictions of both the band’s name and their musical style. The logo emulates a ‘gang sign’, but has a clean and stylised finish.

The band wanted personalised business cards for networking purposes, so I gave each card a personalised symbol, representative of their personalities.

The CD Cover was inspired by a photograph of the band taken before a gig. As the image was of extreemly poor quality I chose to illustrate it and give the case an organic feel. For this reason I used the logo sparingly, allowing the case to become a piece of art for the band.

Both the cards and cases are printed on recyled and heavily textured stocks to enhance the fan’s experience of the material.

In 2011 I drove halfway across the country with some fellow...

In 2011 I drove halfway across the country with some fellow friends and travelers. We cooked the most delicious camp fire food; drank lots of great wine; saw some monoliths; packed and repacked and played tetras with the car; op-shopped for extra jumpers in the middle of the desert; climbed through valleys and around mountains; totaled a car; drove through creeks; slept in opal mines; ate ‘coat of arms’ pizza; and hitch-hiked to Alice Springs.

I took two cameras. I developed this film in my bathroom.

No Signal Productions

Sarajevo is one of the few places in the world where I have ever felt really afraid. And that includes walking down Las Ramblas in the middle of the night and sleeping at train stations. Something about being dropped at a bus stop at midnight, potentially being abducted by cabbies and having to fork out eighty euros for the closest hotel will do that to you. I have since endeavoured to arrive in foreign cities during daylight, or at least organised accommodation in advance.

As a city slowly recovering from the fierce Serbian siege of the nineties after the disbandment of the Yugoslav Republic, Sarajevo appears on Google Maps as a single road. This however, was only a real problem in the menacing dark of night. Once well (and safely) rested and reinstalled in a six-euro-a-night rat trap, I was able to better enjoy the culturally diverse and seemingly paradoxical city.

As a central point between Turkish and Moorish influence from the south-east and that of the Austro-Hungarian Empire from the west, Sarajevo hosts both Orthodox Churches and Mosques, Flea Markets and Department Stores, grandiose, regal architecture and bullet-ravaged socialist blocks.

As in the rest of the former Yugoslav Republic (where, after years of socialism the leading supermarket chain is now known asKonzum, an obvious appropriation of the tem ‘consumerism’), Sarajevo is home to a Zara, a H&M, and an Apple store . But you don’t have to wander far to find yourself in cobbled alleys full of Turkish cafes, metal smiths and second hand stores selling what was quite possibly the contents of the proprietor’s attic. I manage to live on börek and Turkish delight for the duration of my stay, as the kitchenware at Hostel Ljubicica is rusted at best, and the water undrinkable.

In an attempt to free ourselves from the extended lecturing and attempted conversion of a religious, pro-arm American who thought it would be a good idea to go hiking in the hills that surround Sarajevo, (read: active mine fields) the occupants of out hostel dorm embarked on a mission to find live music. Unfortunately the best you get in Sarajevo is covers of nineties pop songs so we consoled ourselves with Rakija and cheap cigarettes, because apparently smoking is not a health risk in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Not only is smoking legal and expected in bars and restaurants, they’re even yet to adorn the packaging with gruesome pictures and warnings.

Spurred by the desire to see the Tunnel of Hope, the remnants of the tunnel used during the Siege of Sarajevo to supply food and ammunition to the resistance movement, I took a tram out to the suburbs. However, the Sarajevo-is-not-on-google-maps issue arises again, and I end up in the midst of dilapidated, bullet-riddled, functionalist apartment blocks. After the mix of Austro-Hungarian/ Turkish splendour of the city centre, this contrast was a somewhat disturbing reminder of the country’s more recent history.

I remember learning a lot about the assassination of Franz Ferdinand and the commencement of World War One in 1914, but my knowledge of Slobodan Miloševic’s attempted genocide of the Bosniaks in the nineties was close to non-existent. I feel like a bit of an ignorant tourist, but the structures look amazing and there’s plenty of decent graffiti to admire.

Unfortunately, no matter how much of an ignorant tourist I felt, the ticket controllers on the tram back into town were not willing to let me off without a fine, despite the fact that we couldn’t actually communicate and I wouldn’t have had the faintest idea how to buy a ticket if I’d tried.

KM26 (€13) later, I was cold and wet and feeling a bit sorry for myself, so spending the last of my marks on some choice souvenirs, (a bullet shell pen and a cheesy ash tray) I headed down to the bus stop, ready to move on. I found it only marginally less seedy than on arrival; Gypsy children begging and pickpocketing, scums who would drag your bag off if you looked the other way, and last ditch cash grabs on luggage fees for the bus trip.

It must also be admitted, that I managed to lock myself in a toilet cubicle at a truck stop at on the nine hour trip from Belgrade. For a good ten minutes I was convinced that my luggage would make it to the capital and I would not. The English speaking Serbs who helped me in the end simply held out their hands and said “It’s the Balkans, expect anything…”

Aldo van Eyck (1918-1999) was 28 when he joined the Department of City Development at Amsterdam Public Works in 1947. After working on city expansions for a short time, he was asked to design a playground for Bertelmanplein. At the time, there were just a few private playgrounds in Amsterdam run by trusts and children had to be members to play there. Residential areas offered hardly any play facilities for children. It was Jakoba Mulder, head of the design group where Aldo van Eyck worked, who came up with the idea of providing a small public playground in every neighbourhood of Amsterdam. The first playground for Bertelmanplein was an experiment. Van Eyck designed a sandpit bordered by a wide rim. In it he placed four round stones and a structure of tumbling bars. The pit was placed in the north corner of the square, diagonally across from three tumbling bars. Bordering the square were trees and five benches. The playground was a success. Many designs followed and, depending on the site, Van Eyck deployed a number of compositional techniques. For him the playgrounds were an opportunity to test out his ideas on architecture, relativity and imagination. Relativity concerned a reality in which connections between elements were determined by their mutual relationships rather than by a central hierarchical ordering principle. As a result, reality was no longer dominated by a permanent centre. Instead, all elements were equal. The playgrounds designed by Van Eyck were exercises in non-hierarchical composition. Owing to the placement of such elements as benches, trees, hedges and different coloured paving stones, the slender metal tumbling bars had the same status and were as emphatically present as the big concrete sandpit. Its round form and rounded corners softened the presence of the sandpit even further.

While completing a two week internship at Fabrica, I was asked...

While completing a two week internship at Fabrica, I was asked to design one of their infamous Wanted Creativity posters, which act as a call out for submissions.

Completely stuck for inspiration, and watching Jim Jarmuch’s Coffee & Cigarettes, I came across a fantastically appropriate quote:

“I like to drink a lot of coffee before I go to sleep so I can dream fast.”

So I brewed a bathtub’s worth of instant coffee and had Andrea photograph me bathing in it. Not sure if I dreamt up any creative ideas that night, but I smelt amazing!

This poster embodies the ethos of my honours project work...

This poster embodies the ethos of my honours project work throughout the 2009. It contains an overview of my theoretical findings as well as adhering to the visual style of my work.

Each poster was silk screened in an edition of 150, and folded down to fit an A5 collection for the group show.

The image used was a prominent one in the development of my research, chosen because it was sent to me as an autonomous attachment to a completely unrelated email from my boss. This use of imagery was the basis for my project and this cat, along with the internet lingo became the visual style of my installation.

As the poster discussed the ways in which language has devolved for use on the internet and instant messaging, I chose to set emphasised segments in all caps. This captured what I felt to be the ridiculousness of internet lingo.

Typeface inspired by the cover of Architecture and...

Typeface inspired by the cover of Architecture and Arts magazine, july 1952, as seen at the Modern Times exhibition.

Din In A Tin

A children’s toy inspired by Gunter Gräss novel The Tin Drum.

The toy is designed to demonstrate how we can eliminate packaging by incorporating it into the product.

Hand-printed tee-shirts inspired by the lyrics of Sonic...

Hand-printed tee-shirts inspired by the lyrics of Sonic Youth.

My parents introduced me to Sonic Youth, probably in the womb. To this day, the inner sleeve of their copy of Dirty Boots still bears my small child’s muddy gumboot print. So it was only fitting that for this project, I should accompany the bold, angry lyrics with photographs of them in all their pre-baby, hipster glory.

I made a very limited edition of ten, all unique, a few od which can still be found on Etsy.

Concertina map of the Dewey Decimal System, the universal...

Concertina map of the Dewey Decimal System, the universal library cataloguing system.
